Once a year, as part of our Culture Team activities, Form1 staff attend educational site visits. This month, for internal and ongoing training, our Northern team visited Gosford Hospital. By Alison Pendlebury (Admin/ Fleet Support).
On July 2, 2018, our Northern team spent a morning at Gosford Hospital with Fire Safety Officer, Gina Mascord. It was a great chance to meet Gina and see the new Stage 5 Fire Services. Spending time at the Hospital gave everyone a better understanding of the site, and the fire measures our technicians often refer to. This is an essential part of training and education at Form1, especially for office staff.
Seven of us attended the site – Warwick Armstrong (Northern Branch Manager), Tighe Smith (Service Supervisor), Anntenette O’Neill (Administration Manager), Paige Shirlaw (Service Coordinator), Meredith Coxon (Administration Officer), Tanya Palmer (Administration Officer) and myself.
It was an insight to see what’s involved, in terms of fire safety, to keep a hospital of this size safe and running smoothly. Gina said when she comes in each morning, there can be over a hundred issues on the panel to work through, and she decides which ones need further investigation.
My key takeouts of the day were learning about lagging (diesel pump exhaust pipe protection), seeing their fire graphics computer system, which links to Wyong Hospital, and the VESDA System in the server room – it was funny watching Gina’s face when Warwick started pressing the buttons.
After the visit Paige got hijacked to do service calls with Tighe which was a first for the admin team. As Service Coordinator it’s great for her to see what the technicians are experiencing when they’re in the field.
This is my fourth site visit. Others included NPBS Head Office (Newcastle), Maroba Nursing Home and Garden Suburbs Nursing Home. This kind of training is essential to support communication, development and culture within our company. I’m already looking forward to the next one.
Special thanks to Gina Mascord, Fire Safety Officer, at Gosford Hospital.
