AS 1851-2012 sets out the requirements for the routine inspection, testing and maintenance of essential fire safety systems. The changes apply to all new and existing Class 1b and Class 2–9 buildings in NSW.
Building owners will be responsible for ensuring fire safety systems are serviced in line with the standard, maintenance is carried out by competent persons, and records are kept for compliance purposes.
These changes aim to improve consistency, accountability and reliability of fire safety systems across NSW — helping protect lives and property.
AS 1851-2012 continues to be the national benchmark for fire safety servicing and maintenance, ensuring compliance and safety in buildings across the state.
