International Nurses Day

Marked by Florence Nightingale’s birth on May 12, International Nurses Day is a worldwide celebration. This year we were lucky enough to spend the day with our inspirational client, Maroba Caring Communities.

Every year, around International Nurses Day, Maroba celebrate and empower their staff with a ceremony and afternoon tea. This year, on May 7, we were delighted to attend their special event, and contribute a donation to support the ongoing training of their staff.

Maroba Executive Assistant and Marketing Support, Sarah Gamble, says the people are what make the business thrive.

“Providing excellent residential care is a pivotal component of our business, and a contributing factor to us winning multiple awards,” she says. “We believe nurses and carers make all the difference. They are the ones on the front line. They provide care to our residents and ensure they are comfortable, and have all the support they need, to lead the best life possible.”

Form1 Northern Branch Manager, Warwick Armstrong, says he was blown away by the company culture.

“This is the first year we’ve been involved and it was a fantastic day,” says Warwick. “Maroba is an organisation we feel culturally aligned with because they support and care about their people. When we received an email request for a donation, we were happy to assist. It’s a great initiative and scholarships, associated with staff training, is something we’re proud to support.”

Staff recognition, at the awards, includes gifting scholarships to assist with professional development which could include enrolment in a Certificate 1V in Aged Care course, assistance with a Master’s program or a one-off seminar or conference.

“Gaynor Williams was the recipient of the Form1 and Acetek Health and Aged Care scholarship,” explains Sarah. “Gaynor nurses and is a physio assistant, and will enrol in a Cert 4 in Leisure and Health. It was a lovely afternoon with approximately 120 staff, residents, suppliers and community members in attendance.”

“It was impressive to see such a big turnout,” adds Warwick. “The event includes Maroba’s annual awards. It really is a case of people celebrating people.”

“The awards include, Service of Excellence awards, Years of Service badges, and scholarships. We’re grateful for the wonderful support of our suppliers and Form1 for the sponsorship of a scholarship,” says Sarah.

Separate to this, staff have the opportunity to vote in the People’s Choice award and identify a colleague they believe goes above and beyond in their duties.

“What really struck a chord with me was the genuine affection and respect between the presenters and recipients of the staff awards,” recalls Warwick. “The culture in the company is strong, caring and respectful. It’s a privilege for us to partner with organisations like Maroba Caring Communities.”

How do you recognise and empower your staff? We’d love to know.
