On October 8, we held Form1’s annual team development day. Staff from our Sydney, Newcastle, and Central Coast branches drove to Glenworth Valley Outdoor Adventures for a morning of Amazing Race inspired activities.
Feedback from the day was so significant in creating greater connections and a sense of belonging at work, we constructed this – a list of eight reasons why team building is one of the best investments a workplace can make. Read on to see how team building can benefit your people.
- TRUST – Team building enables employees to learn more about each other, including strengths and weaknesses that are not always associated with work responsibilities. This contributes to positive relationships, connection, and trust.
- BONDING – In a large company, especially when offices are split over multiple locations, we don’t always get a chance to meet the people we work with face to face. A day out, dedicated to team development, encourages communication with new people which can flow over into the working week. It also affects company culture, which we’ll get to shortly.
- COMMUNICATION – Positive communication is vital in the workplace. Team building can help break down communication barriers and utilise both verbal and non-verbal forms of communication more successfully.
- PRODUCTIVITY – Team building encourages employees to come together for a common goal. When we feel connected and are in a positive working environment, we’re more likely to feel happy and be more productive at work.
- COMPANY CULTURE – At Form1 three key words define our culture as outlined in our company Culture Map. They are team, integrity, and growth. The Culture Map is an important part of our company and our volunteer Culture Committee initiate important events like the Form1 Team Development Day. When you devote time and resource to team bonding, it shows your people what kind of environment you’re creating for them. Team development days greatly enhance our culture.
- MORALE – Directly linked to company culture we know positive and enthusiastic employees naturally create positive morale in the workplace.
- HEALTH – Mental health is super important to us and dedicated days, such as our one at Glenworth Valley, are just one of the strategies we have to encourage positive mental and physical health.
- TEAMWORK – A successful business often comes down to teamwork. Fun team building allows colleagues to work together in effective and efficient ways without the everyday stresses of work.
